Design Aston Martin Vanquish 25 by CALLUM
“It’s rare that a designer has the chance to retell the story of one of their own cars. I’ve wanted to do that for some time and with R-Reforged we could do something special”
“The Vanquish was perfect for its time. But I knew it could be better.”
“Clarity of intent.
The intent of line, form and function must be clear and without ambiguity.”
Ian Callum, designer, Director of Design, CALLUM
“I like that the CALLUM team’s first project is based on the original V12 Vanquish designed by Ian. Aston Martin Lagonda is very proud of the cars created during Ian’s time and they are an important part in both our heritage and evolution.”Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s Govt Vice President and Chief Inventive Officer
The Aston Martin V12 Vanquish was designed by Ian Callum and drew inspiration from the DB7 Vantage. However, the car had a strong influence from the Project Vantage Concept which debuted with a V12 engine at the North American International Auto Show in January 1998.
Substantial starting with a complete retrim with Bridge of Orchy leather featuring a deconstructed tartan pattern inspired by Callum’s Scottish origins. There is also a new dashboard featuring bespoke switchgear in place of the regular Vanquish’s Jaguar XK-sourced parts, a touchscreen interface and aluminium details. Rear seats have been replaced with bespoke fitted leather luggage made by Mulberry.
“We’ve kept the iconic silhouette, those lines that make it a Vanquish, but have cleaned up the front and rear with reprofiled carbon fibre bumpers to make it simpler, more refined.”Ian Callum, designer
“I’ve always wanted to create a tartan, and this deconstructed, abstract tartan will be one of CALLUM’s design identities for the future. It’s a design signature that carries through the car, and it’s even found in the bonnet air intakes.”
Moteur Aston Martin Vanquish 25 by CALLUM
So what is under the hood?
The Vanquish’s brakes have also been uprated, with 398mm and 360mm ceramic discs front and rear and race spec hubs, while a new carbon fibre induction system and exhaust help increase the 5.9-litre V12’s power output from 520 to 580bhp.
But don’t expect the original’s automated manual to have miraculously developed dual-clutch manners; besides, drive it like a regular manual and it’s nowhere near as tardy as received wisdom has it. If you insist, a regular torque converter ’box can be fitted.
Underneath, the car (1st gen) featured a strong aluminium/carbon fibre composite chassis with a 5.9L V12 engine.
The naturally aspirated 60° DOHC (Double OverHead Camshaft) 4 valves per cylinder V12 engine with a bore x stroke of 89 mm × 79.5 mm (3.50 in × 3.13 in) has a power output of 466 ch. / 460 hp) at 6500 rpm and 542 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm.
It is controlled by a drive-by-wire throttle and driven by a 6-speed Electrohydraulic manual transmission. The standard Vanquish model had 355 mm (14.0 inches) drilled and ventilated disc brakes with four-pot calipers, ABS, with electronic brake distribution.
Engineering director Adam Donfrancesco and his crew have introduced the Vanquish’s motor, gearbox, and aerodynamics updated. It now boasts 60bhp greater than normal, extra responsive carbon ceramic brakes, improved brake cooling, stiffer anti-roll bars, tuned dampers, customized springs, a decrease journey peak, and improved underbody aero. For drivers who get pleasure from touring there’s the choice of a six-speed torque converter gearbox as nicely. The Vanquish by CALLUM has the mechanical prowess to match its modernised appears.

“It’s not solely about performance. It’s also about control, comfort and composure.”
“It had to be the V12. It’s the heart of the Vanquish. But Ian and I took a deep breath before we began work.”Adam Donfrancesco, Director Of Engineering, CALLUMdesigns
“design philosophy is based on balancing form and function, design and performance. There’s a reason, a story behind every change and each offers either design or performance benefits. There are several areas where this collaborative, balanced approach comes together, such as the new brake ducts. They look stunning but are functional and needed to help cool the new, larger brakes. Another is the bespoke rear diffuser and its integrated exhaust box, which really is an engineering work of art.”
Only 25 Vanquish by CALLUM will likely be constructed, in the event you present your individual Vanquish, or if shoppers want R-Reforged to supply a donor automobile.
